OKINAWAN MARTIAL ARTS SCHOOL is a school dedicated to Martial Arts deriving from the Okinawan Island in Japan. The styles and culture of martial arts have been developed and passed on over centuries; it was brought to the Japanese mainland in the early 20th century during a time of cultural exchanges between the Japanese and the Ryukyuans. Karate schools began appearing across the world, catering to those with casual interest as well as those seeking a deeper study of the art. For many people karate is a deeply philosophical practice. Karate-do teaches ethical principles and can have spiritual significance to its adherents. Today karate is practiced for self-perfection, for cultural reasons, for self-defence and as a sport.
At OMAS we aim to enhance the qualities in all our members. From the age of 5+ to adults, beginners and advanced level school members are guaranteed to obtain high fitness levels, flexibility and strength. Young children can learn to include sports and martial arts in their lives not just as a temporary hobby but a lifelong skill they maintain and benefit from.
OMAS Instructor Sensei Qwareeq has ensured that the School Programme varies to include not only Martial Arts, Shotokan Karate but also more spiritually balancing and dynamic activities such as Yoga, Self Defence, Gymnastics and classic weapon traditions of Okinawan Martial Arts for beginners, black belts and Dan grades.
